2012 McCoy’s Premier League Darts Betting Preview

The Premier League Darts starts its 8th year on February 9th and has eight of the top players in the world competing for its largest ever prize pool of £450,000. Over a series of 14 weeks Taylor, Lewis, Wade, Anderson, Whitlock, van Barneveld, Painter and Hamilton will travel around some of the biggest arenas in the country before the top four in the table progress to the Playoffs Night at the O2 Arena in London on May 17th for a chance to land the £150,000 first prize.

The tournament, like so many others, has been dominated by Phil Taylor who has taken home the title on no less than five of the seven occasions it has been contested, and he is the 13/8 favourite to add a sixth to his CV.  As shown in the recent World Championships and this tournament last year however, The Power is not as omnipotent as he has been in previous years and he is worth taking on with another player who will be looking to add to his Premier League haul.

That man is Gary Anderson who took the title last year on his Premier League debut beating current world champion Adrian Lewis 10-4 in the final. One of the biggest 180 hitters in the game, the Flying Scotsman is well-suited to the 14 leg format of the regular season and looks a great bet at 9/2 with Paddy Power to retain his title.

Meanwhile at the other end of the table the two wildcard entries Kevin Painter and Andy Hamilton are vying for favouritism to finish bottom. Painter was a somewhat shock winner of the Players Championship back in December, and whilst he is capable of a result on his day, I feel he may struggle to compete with the big guns on a weekly basis. Andy Hamilton on the other hand is a much more resilient player as he showed when making the final of the World Championships, and may just be able to grind out enough results to keep himself from finishing bottom of the pile.
