Spain’s 4-0 victory over Ireland sees them top Group C going into the final fixtures and the reigning world and European Champions are 1/25 on to go through as group winners, and 5/2 to win the tournament outright.
The result means Ireland cannot qualify and they are 8/1 with Bet365 to beat Italy in their final match. Third placed Italy, who are 5/6 to progress after their 1-1 draw with Croatia, have not beaten former manager Giovanni Trappatoni’s Ireland in three attempts.
The 1-1 draw was the Azzurri’s second of the tournament and you can get 10/1 with Bet365 for them to make it a hat-trick against the Irish next week.
Italy’s Andrea Pirlo continued his impressive Euro 2012 campaign with another imperious display against Croatia opening the scoring with lovely free kick – and the Juventus play maker is 10/1 to score first against Ireland.
Mario Mandzukic hit back for Croatia – who are 8/13 to qualify – with his second strike of the tournament (three if you want to count his header against Ireland which rebounded in off Shay Given’s head) and the Croatian hitman is a valued by Paddy Power at 12/1 to finish the tournament top scorer.
But before placing your mortgage on Mandzukic to win the golden boot, the 26-year-old limped off with an injury late on and is a doubt for the Spain clash.
His strike partner, Nikica Jelavic, was unable to add to his goal from Sunday’s win against Ireland and the Everton man has drifted to 50/1 with Bet365 to top score for the tournament.
Whereas Fernando Torres’ brace for Spain has seen his odds for the tournament Golden Boot slashed from 33/1 before the match to 5/1 with Paddy Power.
Croatia lie second in Group C on four points ahead of their meeting with Spain and should Ireland get a result against Italy a draw will be enough to see both teams through.
If Croatia lose to Spain, and Italy win and overturn a goal difference deficit of two then they will progress.
