Richard Wallis Wins 2011 Virgin Atlantic PGA Southern Open

The VIP Gambler’s sponsored golfer Richard Wallis took the 2nd Order of Merit Tournament this week with victory in the Virgin Atlantic PGA Southern Open Championship at the Drift Golf Club.

Richard won the event last year and successfully defended his crown with a fourteen under par total. His first round of 66 put him in great shape and Wallis was able to maintain his early advantage with a second round score of 68 and a final round 71. His 205 total was two shots better than Michael McLean, with Michael Ahluwalia a further three shots back on -9.

Representing Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club, Richard managed two eagles and a massive nineteen birdies during his three rounds. He also had more par breakers than anyone else, with his total coming in at 38.9%.

So far this season, Richard has won the PGA Worthing Masters, the Jamega Tour Event at Gatton Manor and the Golf Escapes Turkey Overseas Pro-Am. Having adding the Southern Open to his haul as well as competing against the best players in the world at the recent BMW PGA Championship, Richard’s career continues to go from strength to strength.

Richard Wallis is the club professional at Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club and we here at The VIP Gambler are proud to sponsor him during his quest to reach the European Tour. Richard won the 2010 Order of Merit and is arguably the best golfer outside of the elite tour. We will continue to keep you updated on Richard’s progress throughout 2011.
