The 2011 Rugby World Cup gets under way on 9^th September and should provide rugby fans with an excellent six of weeks of action. There are a total of 48 matches to be played with 20 nations taking part in the event. New Zealand play host to the 2011 Rugby World Cup and they also get the competition under way with their match against Tonga which kicks off at 9.30am UK time. New Zealand are also the clear favourites for the tournament and are actually odds on to lift the trophy with most betting firms. Their talent as a team is second to none and with home advantage, you can certainly understand why the All Blacks are so strongly fancied.

While the All Blacks might not seem much of a price, they are odds on for a reason. They have re-established themselves as the biggest side in world rugby in recent years and appear to have by far the strongest squad in the competition. Their group, pool A looks fairly straightforward with Tonga and Japan unlikely to pose a serious thread. New Zealand may however be in for a tough match come September 24^th when they face France. The All Blacks should have too much for the French side but the blues are a team you can never really write off.

It seems a bit woeful to tip an odds on shot at the start of a six week event but New Zealand are simply the best side in the contest. Their defence is head and shoulders above the other countries and this allows their attacking players relax and play to an even higher standard. Cory Jane is also worth a punt for top try scorer. He’s been given a chance by the selectors and I fully expect the Hurricanes winger to make his presence felt in this Rugby World Cup.

They are a very tough and consistent side who will prove difficult opposition for anyone they come up against.
