The 2011 US Open is going to be the 111th time this golf championship will be played and the action gets underway on June 16th. Prior to Graeme McDowell’s victory last year, a European player had not won the US Open since 1970. With the Europeans currently dominating the world rankings, it will be interesting to see if any of the home players can mount a serious challenge.

Australian Jason Day won his first PGA Tour event in 2010 when taking the HP Byron Nelson Championship and he hasn’t looked back since. In the Masters earlier this year, Day played some sensational golf, finishing in a tie for second place with Adam Scott, just two shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel. Having only played in five Majors, Day is still relatively inexperienced in these events but he is improving at a rate of knots and finished 10th in the USPGA in 2010 before his 2nd place Masters finish this year. At 66/1 with Paddy Power, Jason Day rates good each way value.

A former power lifter, KJ Choi is one of the most accomplished and consistent golfers on the US Tour. He has won eighteen professional golf tournaments and is the most successful player to come out of Asia. Choi’s biggest career victory came in May this year when winning The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. He showed his usual spirit and determination when defeating David Toms in a playoff. Although he is yet to win a Major, KJ Choi is playing at the very top of his game and certainly has the maturity and temperament to take this year’s US Open crown.
Rickie Yutaka Fowler is a 22 year old from Anaheim, California and one of the most exciting players in the game today. After an illustrious career as a junior and amateur, Fowler turned professional in 2009 and has been mightily impressive in the two years that have followed. While it may seem crazy to back Fowler for a Major when he has yet to win a tournament on the PGA Tour, he has the type of relaxed character and enough spectacular shots in his locker to make his debut win a US Open title. He edged out Rory McIlroy for the 2010 Rookie of the Year award and considering the performances of the young Irishman, that took some doing. At 80/1 with Victor Chandler, Rickie Fowler is a great bet.
