The 2011 Royal Ascot is just around the corner and with that in mind, we have looked at some of the feature races over the five day meeting to see if we can pinpoint the horses with strong claims. The Royal Ascot meeting features some of the highest quality races in the flat racing calendar and the form of these horses is generally of a very consistent nature, which should in turn make our Royal Ascot Tips easier to find.
Day 1 – Tuesday 14th June
Coventry Stakes
The Aidan O’Brien trained Power seems to be all the rage for this event following his victory in the TP Waters EBF Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh. However, at only 3/1 with Paddy Power, I think he’s short enough. At 7/1 with Bet 365, the one that makes a lot of appeal is the Mick Channon inmate Gatepost. This horse is unbeaten in two starts and his win in the bluesq.com E.B.F. Novice Stakes at York looked impressive.
1pt each way Gatepost at 7/1 with Bet 365
Day 2 – Wednesday 15th June
Prince of Wales Stakes
Dozy, a chestnut filly trained by Kevin Ryan appears to be the value in the Prince of Wales. Unbeaten in two starts, she won a decent looking Conditions event at Beverley last time out and she looks a bit of value around the 10/1 mark.
1pt each way Dozy at 10/1 with Victor Chandler
Day 3 – Thursday 16th June
Ascot Gold Cup
Although the bookies have this as a two horse race between the two Irish runners Fame And Glory and Rite Of Passage, I fancy it may not be quite that straightforward. The John Gosden trained Duncan is as short as 7/1 with Paddy Power but can be backed at 10/1 with Bet 365. This is too big as far as I’m concerned for the impressive Yorkshire Cup winner.
1pt each way Duncan at 10/1 with Bet 365
Day 4 – Friday 17th June
Coronation Stakes
Prices have been slow to arrive on Thursday’s races but the exchanges are offering odds and the regular bookmakers won’t be far behind. Irish filly Together definitely deserves to land a decent event following her 2nd place finishes in both the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas this season.
1pt win Together at 6/1 on the Betfair Exchange
Day 5 – Saturday 18th June
Golden Jubilee Stakes
The Golden Jubilee Stakes is a Group 1 event run over a trip of 6 furlongs. Godolphin’s Delegator came right back to his best at York last time in the Duke of York Stakes and looks the one to beat. The 5/1 to Victor Chandler should be snapped up.
1pt win Delegator at 5/1 with Victor Chandler
