2012 Monaco F1 Grand Prix Betting Tips & Odds

The communist season continues with Pastor Maldonado’s victory in the Spanish Grand Prix making it a fifth different winner from a fifth different team so far this year.

Maldonado’s triumph was the first time a Venezuelan has won a grand prix and it was also Williams’ first chequered flag since 2004.

Back Lewis Hamilton to win @ 7/2 with Betfred

The 27-year-old, who was as long as 300/1 to win at the Cricuit de Catalyona, spoke of his belief that he can make it two in a row in Monaco this Sunday – but results so far this year direct us away from consistency.

I’m tipping a sixth different winner in the season’s sixth race, with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton my choice at a best price of 7/2 with Betfred.

Hamilton arguably would have won his first grand prix of the year in Spain had he not been demoted to the back of the grid due to stopping short on the track after he had qualified for pole 0.5 seconds ahead of the field.

Despite starting last the British driver still managed to navigate his way to an eighth place finish.

Hamilton has won here before in 2008 and needs a victory after slipping to third in the championship table behind joint leaders Fernando Alonso and Sebestian Vettel.

Vettel enjoys Monaco, winning last year and placing second in 2010, and the German is a best price 5/1 to notch his second grand prix victory of the season.

Hamilton’s McLaren teammate, Jenson Button, could only manage ninth in Spain and has complained that he is struggling to control the car. Button won in 2009 and he is as long as 9/1 with Bet Victor to make it a repeat performance on Sunday.

Former world champion Kimi Raikonnen secured his second podium finish in a row in Barcelona, an achievement which at the start of the season could be backed at odds as high as fives but now the bookies are only offering evens at best and there are too many competitive drivers on the grid to warrant a punt at those prices.

Elsewhere, surprise championship joint-leader Alonso is priced 9/2 with Sportingbet to improve upon his second place finish, while Bet Victor are offering 14s for Maldonado to keep the chequered flag.
