Man United Teenager Lands Dad £10,000 Gamble

Ryan Tunnicliffe’s substitute appearance for Manchester United in their League Cup victory over Newcastle on Wednesday landed his father a hefty £10,000 gamble with William Hill.

Seemingly confident of his son’s potential his dad, when Tunnicliffe was just nine years old, placed a stake of £100 at odds of 100-1 that his son would one day feature for United’s first-team.

However, there could be worse to come for Hills as his dad also placed £100 on the Red Devils’ teenager playing for England at some point in his career at the price of 350/1, which stands to trigger a £35,000 windfall.

“The last time a bet of this nature cost us £10,000 was when Chris Kirkland made his debut in goal for England, also landing a £100 bet for his father. We will obviously be paying close attention to the progress of Ryan’s career in the future”, said Hill’s Graham Sharpe.

United have drawn Chelsea in the fifth round of the League Cup, with the Blues favourite for the win at Stamford Bridge at odds of 6/5 while Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are as big as 2/1.

The draw has also seen the Red Devils’ outright odds drift to 7s, a price shared by holders Liverpool and Spurs.
