Arsenal confirmed the signing of France international striker Olivier Giroud today – and BetVictor have marked the deal by opening a market on how many Premier League goals the Frenchman will bag next season.

The bookies are offering odds of 5/6 for eight or fewer goals, and 5/6 for nine or more, while he is also 25/1 to be the top Premier League goal scorer in the forthcoming season.

Giroud moves to the Emirates from Montpellier where he was the Ligue 1 top scorer with 21 goals last season.

He was a sparsely used member of Laurent Blanc’s France side which was knocked out by Spain in the Euro 2012 quarter-final.

And BetVictor spokesperson Charlie McCann believes that Giroud could find himself overly familiar with the Arsenal bench too.

He said: “Giroud was joint top scorer for Montpellier last season but the striker did not feature a great deal in Euro 2012 and if Robin van Persie stays at the Emirates he is likely to spend much of his first season on the bench for Arsenal.

“The 5/6 for him to score nine or more would look attractive if RvP left the Gunners but that is beginning to look less likely.”
