Andy Carroll Odds-On To Re-Join Newcastle

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is odds-on to leave Anfield and re-join his former club, Newcastle United, after the Magpies made an offer to take the player back to Tyneside yesterday.

Newcastle’s offer was to initially take Carroll on loan with a view to signing him permanantly – but despite Liverpool rejecting the approach BetVictor have gone 2/7 that he moves back to the Sports Direct Arena by the end of the summer.

Those odds appear extremely short considering the offer was rejected within a matter of hours and despite Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers last week saying he was open to the prospect of Carroll going out on loan it would be terrible PR for the club to allow a £35m asset to work elsewhere for free.

Ironically the speculation over Carroll’s future comes after his best spell of form for club and country since the January 2011 deadline day move, with Liverpool fans beginning to warm to the pony-tailed striker.

The bookies seem confident that if Carroll is to leave Liverpool this summer it will only be for Newcastle. West Ham confirmed their interest in taking the striker on loan – and had agreed to pay his £80,000 wages in full – but manager Sam Allardyce raised doubts over whether the player would be keen on playing for the Hammers and they are out to 12/1.

AC Milan are another club who are reported to be interested in Carroll after being impressed by his Euro 2012 performances. Milan are next favourites in the betting at 10/1 and interestingly they are in the market for a striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic posied to complete a move to Paris Saint Germain.
