An appearance on Goals On Sunday and several Twitter rumours saw the betting on Michael Owen’s next club fluctuate massively yesterday.

Most social media conjuncture had the former England international heading to Everton with The Toffees backed in from 7/4 to at one stage 1/8, before drifting to 1/2.

In a chicken and egg situation those rumours have led to reports of a similar vein in today’s nationals and Owen is currently priced at 1/3 to be plying his trade at Goodison Park in the coming campaign.

However, the Liverpool Echo are reporting that Owen, who was released by Manchester United in the summer, will not be joining David Moyes’ squad.

Should Owen head to Goodison he will follow in the footsteps of his father Terry who briefly played at the club – but it will be a controversial decision due to the striker’s Liverpool past.

Until yesterday Stoke had been the long-time favourites to capture the 32-year-old’s signature but the money on Everton saw The Potters drift from 4/6 to a massive 7/1 at one point before coming back in.
