Liverpool v Arsenal Tips & Odds Preview

Sunday 2 September, KO 13.30

Arsenal sold last season’s top scorer Robin van Persie and one of his chief-providers Alex Song in the summer, and as a result the Gunners travel to Merseyside for their third match of the season without a goal to their name so far.

Arsene Wenger’s team won here earlier in the year, but that victory came from a last minute Van Persie goal, assisted by Song, so the omens don’t look good.

Liverpool 1
Draw 5/4
Arsenal 11/4

In comparison Liverpool recovered from their terrible opening day defeat away at West Brom to draw with reigning champions Manchester City.

New manager Brendan Rodgers looks to have his side playing the type of football which he has come to be known for and it’s no surprise the Reds are the even money favourites.

Liverpool will fancy their chances of keeping the Gunners out and are 5/2 to win to nil, while it’s 10s for Arsenal to register their third consecutive 0-0 draw.

However, the Reds have the added hassle of playing Europa League football this season and a Thursday-Sunday schedule could take it’s toll on them this weekend.

Arsenal at 11/4 are tempting and if they are to win the goal is likely to come from Santi Cazorla (pictured), who has been Arsenal’s one shining light from a summer of discontent in north London.

The Spaniard has looked the most likely player to trouble the net and his odds of 12 to open the scoring look slightly high.
