England v San Marino Tips and Betting Preview

England v San Marino Tips and Betting Preview

England take on San Marino in their third Group H World Cup qualifying match at Wembley on Friday and Roy Hodgson’s side are as short as 1/150 with some firms for the victory.

England last met the tiny European state in the 1994 World Cup campaign, winning both fixtures 7-1 and 6-0 respectively.

San Marino also lost to Montenegro in their previous outing 6-0 and it is 5/6 in the -5 handicap market that the Three Lions record another six-goal margin of victory.

With the obvious gulf in class you will be hard pressed to find any value in the result and handicap markets and punters are probably best advised to turn their attentions to the goalscorer odds.

Wayne Rooney is 8/1 to notch a hat-trick, which is a brave punt considering he is yet to get off the mark for Manchester United this season. However, Jermaine Defoe at 10s could be a viable option.

Frank Lampard looks set to captain the team in place of the suspended Steven Gerrard. The Chelsea midfielder was in fine goalscoring form in last month’s fixtures scoring three goals over the 180 minutes and he is fancied at 3/1 to break the deadlock at Wembley at 3/1.

BetVictor have gone an industry-leading 5/1 that Lampard scores at least twice against San Marino which looks the best bet of the match, with the midfielder known to thrive against inferior opposition and a goal glut seemingly inevitable.
