The PGA Tour heads to the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland this week for the AT&T National. The star-studded field is headed by Tiger Woods and also features the likes of K.J Choi and Jim Furyk.

The tournament is actually the event is hosted by Tiger Woods and benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation which creates and supports community-based programs that improve the health, education, and welfare of all children in America.

The AT&T gets under way on Thursday 28^th June with the fourth and final round taking place on Sunday 1^st July.

The Blue Course at the Congressional Country Club plays host to the 2012 AT&T National. It’s a par 71 course that stands at 7,569 yards in length. It is among the 100 best courses in the United States and was redesigned by Rees Jones in 2006.

The Congressional has previously hosted a number of major tournaments including the US Open on three separate occasions. Tiger Woods and Nick Watney jointly hold the best score in the history of the AT&T with an aggregate total of 267.

There have been five different winners since the event began in 2007 and the prize fun stands at a huge $6,500,000.

Nick Watney is the reining AT&T National champion having won the event in 2011 with a final total of -13. His margin of victory was two strokes but last year’s tournament was held at Aronimink Golf Club rather than the Congressional which is the home for 2012.

His form this season has been slightly patchy but he has made 13 cuts from 15 events played. Having taken the change of venue into account, I still believe Watney is a value play at odds of 40/1.

My win selection for this week has to be Hunter Mahan. He holds the course record here at Congressional and he was also in fine form last weekend at the Travelers Championship, shooting a 61 in the final round.

Mahan has already won two titles and 2012 and could well make it three here at the AT&T.
