2012 Reno-Tahoe Open Odds & Tips PreviewGolf Betting Tips
Away from this week’s World Golf Championship, there is an alternate event taking place on the PGA Tour which gives some of the lesser players a decent opportunity to secure an all important title. The bulk of the top professionals will be heading to the Bridgestone Invitational but Nevada has attracted a few stars including back to form Irishman Padraig Harrington. The action gets under way on Thursday 2nd August, with the fourth and final round taking place on Sunday the 5th.
The Montrêux Golf and Country Club plays host to the 2012 renewal of the Reno-Tahoe. It is a relatively easy course that stands at 7,472 yards in length and has a par score of 72. This tournament first took place in 1999 and there is $3m up for grabs in this year’s prize fund. American Scott Piercy is the reining Reno-Tahoe Open champion having taken the title in 2011 with a -15 total of 273. That victory was Piercy’s first on the PGA Tour but he landed his second career event at last week’s RBC Canadian Open.
Market leader for this week’s tournament is the resurgent Padraig Harrington. The Irishman has been showing some of his old sparkle in the last few months and looks very happy and relaxed on the golf course once again. He’s clearly the best player in the field and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the modified stableford scoring system they are employing here this week. I think the 8/1 quote from Betfred is decent value and Padraig rates a solid win bet here.
At slightly bigger odds, John Rollins makes a fair amount of appeal. The 22/1 shot is definitely no slouch and won this event in 2009. This was his third victory on the PGA Tour. Rollins has finished in the top ten a total of five times in 2012 and must have strong each way claims in Nevada.
