2012 Wyndham Championship Tips & Preview
Golf Betting Tips
This week, the PGA Tour heads to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship. The action gets under way on Thursday 16th August, with the fourth and final round taking place on Sunday 19th. As there is no European Tour event taking place this week, all eyes will be on the Sedgefield Country Club to see who can take the 2012 Wyndham Championship title. A few players are coming off the back of decent performances at the PGA Championship and will be looking to build on that and make it a successful back end of the season.
The Sedgefield Country Club plays host to this week’s event. It’s a par 70 course that stands at 7,130 yards in length and has been the regular home for the Wyndham Championship since 2008. The club was established in 1925 and was designed by Donald Ross. 2008 winner Carl Pettersson holds the best aggregate score in Wyndham Championship history with a 259 total, while Jesper Parnevik’s -23 was the best score to par back in 1999. Betfred make Pettersson a 20/1 shot to regain his title and that might not be a bad price considering his performance at the PGA last week.
US Open winner Webb Simpson comes here as the defending champion having won this event in 2011 with a 262, -18 total. He’s been in great form overall this season, having managed six top ten finishes, while only missing three cuts from seventeen events played. Simpson is the 14/1 joint favourite with Betfred, alongside Jason Dufner.
My first pick for this week is 2009 champion Ryan Moore who looks good value at odds of 50/1. While he is yet to win in 2012, Moore has finished top ten on four occasions and has made 15 cuts from the 18 tournaments in which he has taken part. He is obviously capable of producing his best golf at Sedgefield and it’s about time Moore added to his sole PGA Tour victory.
South Africa’s Tim Clark is a very interesting contender following his excellent performance at the PGA Championship. He’s been plagued with injury problems for the last couple of years but an 11th placed finish at the PGA shows Clark is very much on his way back and can put up another bold show this week.
