This week’s action on the European Tour is the 2012 KLM Open. The tournament gets under way on Thursday 6^th September, with the four and final round taking place on Sunday 9^th. A number of big names head for the Netherlands this week including former world number one Martin Kaymer, as well as the in form Nicolas Colsaerts. Kaymer won this event in 2010 and is still looking for his first victory this year. The bookmaker’s rate his chances highly and he is certainly a leading contender for this year’s KLM Open.

First played in 1923, the KLM Open is staged at the Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands. The course stands at 6,906 yards in length and has a par score of 70. It might not be the longest course on tour, but it does present a decent challenge for the competing professionals. England’s Simon Dyson won the 2011 renewal of this tournament while Germany’s Martin Kaymer was successful in 2010. Both men line up this week and are both looking to improve on what have been sub standard seasons thus far.

My first pick for the week’s KLM Open is the fast improving Englishman David Lynn. Having turned professional in 1995, it has taken David until 2012 to really become a household name following an excellent second place finish at the PGA Championship behind Rory McIlroy. David’s only win on the European Tour actually came at this event in 2004 and coupled with his second place finish last year, he looks a good value bet at odds of 20/1 with Betfred.

It is hard to ignore the claims of three time KLM Open winner Simon Dyson, pictured above and he is my second selection. He finished a respectable 27^th at last week’s European Masters and has possibly put the injuries that have plagued him this season behind him. The 25/1 on offer seems a massive price for a player that has won three of the last six renewals of the KLM Open.
