2012 ISPS Handa Perth International Golf Tips & Odds

2012 ISPS Handa Perth International Golf Tips & Odds

Australia plays host to this week’s action on the European Tour, the ISPS HANDA Perth International. The tournament gets under way on Thursday 18th October, with the fourth and final round taking place on Sunday October 21st. 2012 will be the first time the Perth International has been played, and the organisers have managed to attract some big names including Jason Dufner, Charl Schwartzel and Bo Van Pelt. It will be interesting to see who can win Australia’s richest golf tournament.

The Lake Karrinyup Country Club plays host to this week’s European Tour competition. The course stands at 7,143 yards in length and has a par score of 72. The course has been rebuilt at a cost of around $3.5million and course architect Mike Clayton has done a great job making Lake Karrinyup one of Australia’s very best golf courses. There are expansive fairways here but with the wind from the coast, it is sure to present a tough challenge for the Tour professionals.

We have no historical form to go on as this is the first occasion on which the ISPS HANDA Perth International is going to be played, but American Jason Dufner has played well in Australia previously and is our starting point. Dufner’s last appearance here in Australia was at the 2009 Australian Masters where he just lost out to Tiger Woods. He seems excited about playing here this week and comes into the event as the 11/2 market leader. A two time winner on the PGA Tour this year, Jason Dufner will definitely be involved at the business end and is a worthy favourite.

Coming off the back of an excellent performance last week where he beat both Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, Charl Schwartzel is my first pick for the Perth International. The 13/2 chance comes into this event full of confidence and the 2011 Masters winner will be looking to capture his eighth European Tour title. I think he is the best bet of the front runners and is decent value at 13/2 in his current level of form.

My second selection is home favourite and 2011 Australasia Order of Merit winner Greg Chalmers. Chalmers has played very solid on the PGA Tour this year, and has seven top 25 finishes to his credit. He should be able to improve on that with the amount of support behind him here and he is a rock solid each way bet.
