The PGA Tour heads to Georgia this week for the 2012 McGladrey Classic. The action gets under way on Thursday 18^th October, with the fourth and final round being played on Sunday October 21^st. This will be only the third time the McGladrey Classic has been played and the event is another in the Fall series on the PGA Tour. Although Jason Dufner has elected to play and Australia, and Tiger and Rory have a rest week, there is still a high class field battling it out for the $720,000 first prize.

The Seaside Golf Club in Georgia plays host to this year’s McGladrey Classic. Standing at 7,055 yards in length, this par 70 course has received much praise but features some of the toughest greens on Tour, so a hot putter is a must here. Some rain is forecast for the opening two rounds, but the weather should be fine for the closing days.

Ben Crane comes here as the defending champion following an excellent performance in 2011, seeing off Webb Simpson following a playoff. Crane shot a final round 63, having been eight shots off the leader at one stage. Betfred make Ben Crane a 40/1 chance to land back to back McGladrey Classic titles.

Australia’s Jason Day merits careful consideration this week following his four rounds in the 60s at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He finished in fourth place at that tournament and comes here fresh having taken last week off. Although this hasn’t been a stellar season for Day thus far, he appears to be hitting form and the Seaside course may well play to his strengths. Day is a 14/1 chance at Betfred, and he is my first selection for the McGladrey.

At bigger odds, Michael Thompson makes plenty of each way appeal at odds of 40/1. He finished in 13^th spot at the Justin Timberlake event and was leader here last year after three rounds, ultimately finishing just one stroke off a playoff position. Thompson has a great chance of going one place better in 2012 and is definitely over priced.
