2012 Ascot Golden Jubilee Stakes Trends & Tips Review
Horse Racing TipsThe Golden Jubilee Stakes is a Group 1 race open to horses aged three years and older. It is run over a trip of six furlongs and is part of the Royal Ascot meeting, taking place on the fifth and final day.
This year, the Golden Jubilee Stakes has been renamed as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The James Fanshawe trained Society Rock won the 2011 renewal of the Golden Jubilee Stakes at odds of 25/1.
The 3/1 favourite Bewitched was well beaten, finishing third from last.
First run in 1868, the race was originally called the All-Aged Stakes and has progressed from Group 3 to Group 1 status over the years. Prince Charlie is the most successful horse in the history of the Golden Jubilee Stakes, having won the race on three separate occasions.
Trainer Vincent O’Brien has five victories to his credit while jockey Lester Piggott managed no fewer than nine wins in the race.
Golden Jubilee Stakes Tips
This year’s Golden Jubilee Stakes or Diamond Jubilee Stakes as it is now known revolves around Australian raider Black Caviar. This undefeated horse is largely considered to be the best sprinter in the world and has won every major honour in her home country.
Trainer Peter Moody and connections have made the decision to bring the mare to England for the Royal Meeting and the bookmakers are taking no chances, having installed Black Caviar at odds of 2/7.
It’s hard to evaluate her form in comparison to her opponents but on official figures, she should take the world of beating. As a punting proposition, she makes little appeal and it’s probably best backing something else each way.
It isn’t out of the realms of possibility that Black Caviar may run below form outside her own country.
The Roger Charlton trained Bated Breath looks like the biggest threat to the favourite. This five year old won the Temple Stakes at Haydock last time in commanding fashion and he looks to still be improving.
At odds of 6/1, he looks an each way bet to nothing and maybe be able to cause an upset and land the win bet too.
