Friday’s Racing Tips For Ascot & York

Friday’s Racing Tips For Ascot & York

This Friday provides plenty of entertainment for horse racing fans with action coming from Ascot, Chepstow, Newmarket, Southwell, Thirsk and York. Over in Ireland, there is racing from both Down Royal and Wexford.

The pick of Friday’s racing comes from Ascot where we have the Valiant Stakes, a Listed event for fillies as well as some high class handicaps. Here are our two best bets of the day for Friday.

3.30pm Ascot

The Woodcote Stud E.B.F. Valiant Stakes is a Listed event for fillies aged three years and older. The race is run over a trip of one mile and there is over £18,000 on offer to the winning connections.

John Dunlop and William Buick team up here with the 9/4 favourite Beatrice Aurore. This filly is the highest rated runner in the field at 109 and has been competing in Group 2 events recently. This represents a drop in grade and gives her a winning opportunity.

Beatrice Aurore finished a respectable fifth of 13 here last time out and she shouldn’t be far away. I’m taking the favourite on however with the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Pimpernel (pictured).

This filly is still relatively unexposed and can put a couple of less than spectacular performances behind her with victory here. The run here at Ascot last time should have put her spot on for this event and I’ll be taking the 3/1 on offer with Betfred.

7.30pm York

Another Listed contest for fillies here, the E.B.F. Stobart PJA Testimonial Lyric Fillies’ Stakes is run over a trip of one mile and two furlongs, and there is £19,848 up for grabs for the winner.

At 3/1 Richard Fahey’s consistent filly Barefoot Lady has been put in as favourite for this race. She has been plying her trade in much better races than this and is a worthy favourite in what is a competitive looking event.

The bottom horse from the Gosden yard looks a very interesting contender. Ridden by the talented Nicky Mackay, Gathering went straight into Listed company after winning her maiden when finishing third at Goodwood in the Height of Fashion Stakes back in May.

The extra furlong here could well suit and as the most unexposed runner in the field, I think she is a good value each way bet.
