Saturday’s Ascot Channel 4 Horse Racing Tips
Horse Racing Tips
Saturday’s horse racing action comes from York, Ascot, Newmarket, Newcastle, Lingfield Park and Salisbury. There is also racing in Ireland from Wexford.
The big race of the day is the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes where last year’s winning connections bid to repeat Twice Over’s success with their consistent colt Jet Away. Channel 4 are showing a selection of the races from both Ascot and York, with plenty of action for armchair punters to enjoy.
2.55 Ascot
The big handicap sprint of the day here with twenty runners heading to post for the five furlong Betfred Mobile Sports Handicap. Top weight here is last year’s winner Medicean Man. This six year old is now rated 109 and would appear to have a lot to do giving weight to the field. He does have a capable pilot taking three pounds off his back but even so, I think the horse has a difficult task to make it back to back wins.
Medicean Man is a 14/1 chance for a repeat. The bookies make the David Baron trained Waffle their favourite for this race at odds of 11/2.
He has been running consistently well all season and was just touched off here in the Wokingham last time out behind Dandy Boy. I might be mad, but I personally like the chances of the outsider of the whole field here, 25/1 shot Fit Flyer.
The horse comes into the race fresh having been off the track since early June and has been dropped three pounds by the handicapper on the back of that effort at Epsom. Back down to a mark of 90, he can be involved at the business end of the race and has an each way chance.

3.25pm Ascot
The Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes is a Group 3 event for two year old fillies run over a trip of six furlongs. There is an excellent first prize of £28,355 on offer to the winner and eight runners go to post. The betting is headed by the Richard Hannon trained Maureen at odds of 13/8.
She looked very unlucky in running last time out when finishing second to Sendmylovetorose in a similar event at Newmarket. She has every chance of going one place better today but the odds of 13/8 do seem very prohibitive in a race full of unexposed sorts.
I think the value in the race lies with 6/1 chance Sandreamer. She was a beaten favourite at Newmarket last month behind City Image and on a strict line through that horse, has a lot to do to beat Maureen. However, I think City Image ran a little flat in the race at Newmarket behind Maureen and that form line cannot be taken too literally. At the prices, I’m willing to support Mick Channon’s runner.
