Ebor Day Two: Graveyard For FavouritesHorse Racing Tips
York’s Knavesmire racecourse lived up to its unofficial title of the Graveyard for Favourites on day two of the Ebor Festival – with Newfangled, The Fugue and Anderiego all victims.
John Gosden’s highly rated Newfangled went off at Evens in the Lowther Stakes but was pulled up by jockey William Buick inside the first furlong with a cracked pelvis as Rosdhu Queen under Richard Hughes went on to win at 9/2.
There was further disappointment for Gosden in the feature Yorkshire Oaks when his trainee The Fugue looked to be home and dry, only for the in-form Shareta to steal the winning post in the final yards (pictured).
The weather was very wet yesterday at York and – as our guest tipster, Sam Evans, wrote in his day two preview – Shareta would have benefitted from the softer ground, which she is used to having been trained in France.
Kieren Fallon’s mount and our tip in the 3.05 handicap Anderiego was backed in from 10s to 5s at Betfred to go off the clear favourite, which is a dubious honour on this course, but the 12/1 Trade Storm romped home to take the win.
