There is plenty of decent racing for horse racing fans to enjoy this Friday with action coming from Sandown Park, Thirsk, Bangor-On-Dee, Salisbury and Wolverhampton. Over in Ireland, there is racing from Down Royal. The pick of Friday’s racing comes from Salisbury where they stage the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Stonehenge Stakes, a Listed contest for two year olds. We have found a couple of decent looking bets for today, so on we go with the race previews.

2.50pm Sandown

The Wisecall Claims Assistance Handicap is a class 5 contest open to horses aged three years and older. The race is run over the minimum trip of five furlongs and there is £2,588 on offer to the winning connections. Kieren Fallon’s mount Swendab heads the betting for this wide open race at odds of 9/2. Last seen eight days ago, Swendab finished second on that occasion and has been running consistently well all season without getting his head in front.

The horse may have to once again settle for a place today. I personally like the look of the filly Amazon Twilight at a fair each way price of 7/1. I was very impressed with her display when finished second to Links Drive Lady last time out and Folkestone and she is still relatively lightly raced. Amazon Twilight must have sound claims off just a 3lbs higher mark.

6.35pm Salisbury

A Listed contest here, the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Stonehenge Stakes is open to horses aged two years old and is run over a trip of one mile. Five runners are due to compete for the £13,043 first prize and they are headed in the betting by the Richard Hannon trained Havana Gold, who is available at even money. This bay colt had looked impressive when winning his first two starts in the UK before unseating his rider over in France at Deauville.

The victory at Ascot in July when landing the Foundation Developments Novice Stakes would be the pick of this horse’s form. The biggest obstacle to Havana Gold getting back to winning ways is likely to come from the Godolphin runner Timoneer. He won on debut at Newmarket before finishing third of four in a Conditions event at the same venue in what looked like a decent quality contest. I can’t really see past Havana Gold here and the even money doesn’t look bad value in this field.
