Horse Racing Tips For Sandown & Channel 4 Races
Horse Racing Tips
Saturday’s horse racing action comes from Sandown Park, Chester, Beverley, Bath and Market Rasen. There is also racing in Ireland from Killarney. The major races of the day take place at Sandown where they are staging two Group 3 contests, including the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Atalanta Stakes. With the Paralympics currently taking place, Channel 4 racing moves to More4, Sky Channel 138, and will be broadcasting a selection of the races from Sandown, Chester and Beverley, with plenty of action for armchair punters to enjoy.
2.15 Sandown
Sandown Park’s card gets underway with the Piper Heidsieck Champagne Handicap, a class 3 5f race with £8,092 on offer to the winner. The fifteen runners are headed in both the weights and the betting by 5/1 chance Face The Problem. The Jamie Osborne trained gelding won a decent contest last time out at Doncaster and has the assistance of Kieren Fallon in the saddle today.
This horse has had his share of issues since a very promising start to his career, but appears to be back on track now. The Brian Meehan trained Catfish could be the one for those punters looking for an each way alternative to the favourite. The handicapper has eased this filly a few pounds on the back of a couple of lacklustre runs and she may well get herself into a place here. I’m going to stick with Face The Problem and he should be able to make it back to back wins, even conceding 5lbs to the field.

3.25pm Sandown
The big race of the day here, the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Atalanta Stakes is a Group 3 event for fillies, run over a trip of one mile with a first prize of £31,190 on offer to the winning connections. The Richard Fahy trained Ladys First has been put in as the 6/1 market leader in this wide open looking contest. This three year old won well at Haydock in a Listed contest last time out and must be respected taking the step up into group company.
She definitely deserves to take her chance in this grade and will be a leading contender. I’m keen to take the favourite on however with the top weight Clinical. She’s a proven group race performer and won her last start in a group 3 race back in June. Her run in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood was more than respectable and I feel Sir Mark Prescott’s filly is the one they all have to beat.
