Channel 4 Saturday Horse Racing Tips & Predictions
Horse Racing Tips
Saturday’s horse racing action comes from Ayr, Catterick, Newbury, Newmarket and Wolverhampton. There is also racing in Ireland from Listowel. The pick of the days racing is shared between both Ayr and Newbury, with Group races taking place at both venues. Saturday’s big handicap race is the William Hill Gold Cup at Ayr where a big field compete over a trip of six furlongs. Channel 4 are showing a selection of races from Ayr, Newbury and Newmarket.
3.30 Ayr
The big race of the day here, the Ayr Gold Cup, sponsored by William Hill, is a class 2 Heritage Handicap open to horses aged three years and older. The race is run over a fast six furlongs and the betting is headed by the Kevin Ryan trained Our Jonathan at odds of 12/1. This five year old course and distance winner has been running is slightly higher company this season with varied success, but back in this grade over a course and distance he thrives on, Jim Crowley’s mount should be there or thereabouts.
I’m personally keen on the chances of the William Haggas three year old Sholaan. Off the track for 84 days coming into this race, this unexposed sort has won two races thus far this season and finished third at Windsor behind Mezzotint when last seen. He still looks open to any amount of improvement and is a big each way price, especially considering the fact he comes into the race a lot fresher than some of these rivals.

3.45pm Newbury
A five furlong Group 3 contest, the Dubai International Airport World Trophy is open to horses aged three years and older and features a number of high class sprinters. Although he was well beaten in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York last time out, the David Barron trained Pearl Secret is likely to be a ht favourite for this contest.
That was the first defeat this horse had suffered following four victories on the spin and it could well be inexperience rather than ability that caused Pearl Secret’s 9th place finish. I’d expect him to be very competitive here. At bigger odds, William Buick’s mount Swiss Spirit makes plenty of each way appeal. This bay colt is still relatively unexposed and had looked highly progressive until a disappointing performance in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. The horse has previously won twice at Newbury and looks a rock solid each way bet.

Back Swiss Spirit each way @ 10/1 with bet365
