14.00 British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E.B.F Maiden Stakes (1m)
The three-day Newmarket Cambridgeshire Festival opens today with a competitive Maiden Stakes over the Rowley Mile. Nine line up to contest the £7,000 prize money, with the betting headed by the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Telescope.
This two-year-old colt was beaten by just a short head by Snow King on his debut at Ascot earlier this month and, despite the 4/7 price, is tipped to go one better today under the ride of Richard Hughes.
If those odds fail to set the heart racing then Space Ship is a worthy alternative. An improvement on his step-up to a mile last time out as well as the undeniable form of trainer John Gosden and jockey William Buick are all positives.

14.35 Cambridge News Excellent Horseracing Coverage Nursery (1m)
This looks a potentially tough race to call with no less than 16 two-year-olds going to post and small stakes are advised. Paul Hanagan’s mount of Red Avenger looks primed for a return to winning ways after losing out to Regal Dan by a head at Doncaster’s St. Leger meeting. The Ed Dunlop-trainee is available in the betting at 5/1.
Darkening, at 11/2, also looks an interesting choice. The Godolphin gelding won recently at Yarmouth, but is yet to make the step-up to a mile with two of his runs coming at the six furlong distance.

15.10 Princess Royal Richard Hambro E.B.F Stakes (1m4f)
The third race of the day, run over a distance of one mile, four furlongs is tempted by prize money totalling £33,000. John Gosden’s Gallipot heads the market at 9/2, with two wins this season and a reputable fourth behind Wild Coco last time out.
However, the royally owned Sequence gets the vote instead. Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Hughes team up again for this listed event and with Sequence coming home first at Thirsk and Newmarket already this summer odds of 13/2 look good value.
