Saturday’s horse racing action comes from Ascot, Newmarket, Redcar, Fontwell Park and Wolverhampton. There is also racing in Ireland from Gowran Park. The pick of the days racing comes from Newmarket, who stage the 500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy. Channel 4 are showing a selection of races from Newmarket, Ascot and Redcar. Below are our two best bets for Saturday afternoon’s horse racing action.

2.50pm Newmarket

The 500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy is a class 2 contest run over a trip of seven furlongs. 13 runners go to post and there is a huge winner’s prize of £277,522 up for grabs. The Richard Hannon trained course and distance winner Havana Gold heads the betting for this race at odds of 5/2. Last successful nine days ago here at Newmarket, this classy two year old has won four of his five races this season and unseated his rider during his only defeat in France.

Havana Gold’s record speaks for itself, and I think he is a more than worth favourite here. Another interesting contender is Andrew Balding’s runner Race And Status. This horse has just the one race under his belt thus far, a victory in a decent looking maiden race at Newbury in September. He looks open to any amount of improvement, and could well be there at the business end of the race. That being said, I think Havana Gold is going to be tough to beat.

3.45pm Redcar

A six furlong Listed contest, the totepool.com Two-Year-Old Trophy is open to two years olds only and there are 23 runners going to post. Jillnextdoor from the Mick Channon yard is favourite for this competitive looking race at odds of 4/1 with bet365. This filly finished fifth in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes last time out and that is very solid looking form in the context of this race. However, her profile prior to that run isn’t as convincing and I’m happy to look elsewhere for the winner.

The horse I like here is 5/1 chance Hajam. The highest rated runner in the race, Hajam is still very unexposed and finished an excellent second in the Weatherbys Insurance 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes in September. A repeat of that effort is likely to be enough to pick up this valuable prize.
