Fridays Horse Racing Tips & Best Bets

A number of horse racing meetings in store this Friday, with action coming from Bath, Carlisle, Newton Abbot, Wolverhampton and York. There is also horse racing in Ireland from Dundalk and Tramore. York arguably hosts the pick of the action, and while there is no real top class racing today, there are still some decent looking betting opportunities. Here are our best bets for Friday’s racing.

1.30pm Bath

The Winning Connections Club Handicap is a class 2 contest open to horses aged three years and older. The race is run over the minimum trip of one mile and two furlongs and there is £10,221 on offer to the winning connections. The betting for this event is headed by the William Haggas trained  Jawhar. This four year old has won his last three starts and has steadily risen up the weights as a result. Running off a mark of 90 here, the gelding will need to show improved form once again, but could well do so. I prefer the chances of course and distance winner King’s Masque. This six year old has won three of his last four starts, most recently over course and distance. He is up in grade but getting almost a stone in weight from the favourite, I think Martin Lane’s mount will take all the beating.

3.05pm York

A decent looking handicap here, the Acorn Web Offset Handicap is a class 2 event open to runners aged three years and upwards. The race is run over a trip of one mile, and 16 runners go to post to battle it out for the £11,644 first prize. This is a wide open contest as far as the bookies are concerned, and they go 9/2 the field, with Cambridgeshire fourth Bancnuanaheireann heading the market. This bay gelding surprised most judges by finishes in the places in that 33 runner event last time out at odds of 50/1. While that was an excellent performance, it is debatable as to whether the horse can reproduce that level of form here. Last year’s winner Vainglory definitely looks over priced at odds of 16/1. David Simcock’s charge runs from a 1lb lower mark this year and although has disappointed in his last couple of runs, Vainglory often saves his best performances for this particular track. The horse looks like a great each way bet for me.
