Saturday Horse Racing Tips & Channel 4 Predictions

Saturday Horse Racing Tips & Channel 4 Predictions

Saturday’s horse racing action comes from Ascot, Catterick, Cheltenham, Kelso, as well as an evening meeting at Wolverhampton. There is also racing in Ireland from Cork. The pick of the days racing comes from Ascot, who stage two Group 1 events, including what the appearance of possibly the greatest racehorse of all time Frankel in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Channel 4 are showing a selection of races from Cheltenham, Catterick and Kelso while Ascot’s card can be seen on the BBC. Below are our two best bets for Saturday afternoon’s horse racing action.

2.50pm Catterick

The totescoop6 Catterick Dash Handicap is a class 2 event run over a trip of five furlongs. The race is open to horses aged three years and older and the 15 runners will compete for a first prize of £12,938. The bookies are going 4/1 the field here, with the Richard Fahey trained Arctic Feeling heading the market. This four year old put up a decent performance last time to finish second under heavy conditions which he will once again encounter today. The horse deserves to win another race after some very creditable runs recently and is sure to be there or thereabouts. I’m going to stick with a horse I put up last week and have been keeping a close eye on all season, Ancient Cross. Mick Easterby’s runner has been steadily easing down the weights and runs here off a mark of 91. That is too low for a horse of his ability and although heavy going won’t be ideal, Ancient Cross has shown enough to suggest he can deal with it.

2.15pm Catterick

A seven furlong race, the totepool.com Fillies’ Nursery is open to fillies aged two years old. There is £4,528 on offer to the winner and five runners go to post. The Kevin Ryan trained Delores Rocket has won her last two starts and is the 13/8 market leader with bet365. Her victory last time out at Ayr under similar conditions was impressive. She made all under today’s pilot Amy Ryan and the team will no doubt be trying to employ the same tactics here. She is a worthy favourite as she bids for the hat trick. From a value point of view, I like the chances of 5/1 shot Storma Norma. Tim Easterby’s filly has run consistently well this season without winning but does receive over a stone from the favourite and in these testing conditions, it could well be enough for Storma Norma to get her head in front at a rewarding price.
