Fridays Horse Racing Tips & Odds

This Friday’s horse racing actions comes from Doncaster, Fakenham, Newbury, Newcastle and Wolverhampton. There is also an evening meeting over in Ireland at Dundalk. The pick of the action comes from Doncaster where we have some high class handicap racing, while there is also plenty of interesting races for jump fans at both Fakenham and Newcastle. Here are our best bets for this Friday.

3.15pm Doncaster

The Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager Of The Year Handicap is a class 2 event for horses aged three years old and is run over a trip of six furlongs. 22 runners go to post and there is £10,350 on offer to the winning connections. The betting is headed by the Ron Harris trained Prodigality who is partnered by Graham Lee in the saddle. Prodigality won last time out at Goodwood when well backed and comes here under a 6lbs penalty as a result.

This horse has been running consistently well all season and may still be improving. His sixth placed finished in the Portland at this venue reads well and his current price looks more than fair. Ancient Cross is another contender that warrants careful consideration here. The horse is eight years old now but his mark has continued to come down this season and he was only just beaten at Catterick on Saturday, finishing second. Ancient Cross runs off 91 again here and should go well. With his progressive profile, I think Prodigality is the one to be on.

3.25pm Newbury

A quality two year old contest here, the Sir Gerald Whent Memorial Nursery is a class 3 event run over a trip of six furlongs. There is £5,822 on offer to the winner and 11 runners go to post. Shahdaroba from the Millman team has been put in as the 4/1 market leader for this contest by bookmaker Betfred. This bay colt finished second under testing conditions at York last time out in what was arguably a better race.

He seems to handle any going and could well register his second career victory. The horse I am interested in here is 10/1 shot King Dragon. He was well out of his depth in a Group 3 race at HQ earlier this month but back in more suitable company, Brian Meehan’s runner looks a very good each way prospect. A repeat of his efforts at Salisbury or Doncaster would see him go vey close.
