2012 Welsh Open Snooker Tips & OddsSnooker Betting Tips
This year’s Welsh Open kicks off on 12th February and is a World Snooker ranking event. The Newport Centre has played host to the Welsh Open since 2005 and this is where all the exciting action will once again be taking place. World Snooker have reached an agreement with Newport City Council to ensure the tournament remains at the Newport Centre for the next three years.
There is £201,500 in the prize fund for the 2012 Welsh Open with the winning player receiving a cheque for £30,000. A total of 32 players are competing in this week’s tournament including all the top players in the game today. Judd Trump, John Higgins, Ding Junhui and Steve Davis have already made it through to the last 16 and there are sure to be some intense matches as the competition progresses.
John Higgins is the defending Welsh Open Champion and bet365 make the Scot the 13/2 second favourite to win this year. Higgins has in fact taken the last two Welsh Open crowns and was also victorious in 2000 beating Stephen Lee 9-8 in the final. Although he has a tough looking match in the last 16 against Ding Junhui, his impressive record in Wales means he will be the favourite to make it to the quarter final stage.
While the 11/2 favourite Judd Trump is the man to beat at the moment, he is not unbeatable as Neil Robertson proved at the recent Masters tournament. Both Trump and Robertson have strong claims this week but I’m going to take a chance on current world number one Mark Selby. It’s arguable as to Whether Selby is currently the best player in the world but for me, he’s definitely as good as anyone else on the circuit. Trump may be the most exciting but Selby makes less mistakes and is equally breathtaking at times. These two could meet in the semi finals and the winner of the event is likely to come from that match in my opinion.
