Serena has trailed her sister Venus in Wimbledon singles titles for four years now – but that should all change come this afternoon.
Serena literally aced her way past Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals to make it to her seventh final.
The American produced an amazing 24 aces in just two sets of tennis and unsurprisingly Azarenka had no answer. This was no fluke either, Serena banged in 22 against Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals.
Azarenka broke Serena just once to take the second set to a tie-break but there was only ever going to be one winner in the match the way Williams was serving.
And Azarenka is a better player than Radwanska, with the Belarussian having beaten Serena’s opponent six times this year alone.
So if Azarenka can’t come close to Serena how can Radwanska? Yes the two are different players – the Pole has a deft approach and doesn’t have the power of Azarenka – but the outcome is unlikely to be different, especially with the world No 3 reported to be suffering from a cold.
Serena and Radwanska have met just two times previously and both of those matches, which Williams won in straight sets, were back in 2008 so there is little to be taken from their head to head record.
The simple fact is if Serena serves as she has been the match will be over in two sets.
