When these two meet it’s either a 1-0 United victory or an Everton draw after a late comeback amid a flurry of goals. This has been the blueprint for this fixture for the last two seasons and tonight looks poised to produce the latter.

United, you may have heard, have also made one or two decent transfers themselves in the off-season not least Robin van Persie from Arsenal, who is set to make his debut tonight.

Everton are credited with winning Manchester City the title last season as their fight back from 4-2 down to draw four apiece handed momentum to the Citizens.

That result was the second consecutive season Everton have come from behind to draw tonight – after taking the lead – and a third renewal is priced generously at 8/1 with William Hill.
