Friday’s Newmarket Horse Racing Betting Tips

Some excellent horse racing in store this Friday, with action coming from Newmarket, Haydock Park, Stratford, Worcester and Wolverhampton. There is also horse racing in Ireland from Dundalk. Newmarket definitely hosts the pick of the action today with three Group races on their card including the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies’ Mile. Here are our top picks from today’s cards.

2.20pm Newmarket

The Nayef Joel Stakes is a Group 2 contest open to horses aged three years and older. There is £56,710 on offer to the winning connections and 11 runners go to post. The John Gosden trained Joviality heads the betting here at odds of 7/2. This four year old needs to put a disappointing effort in the Falmouth Stakes behind her but prior to that, she had taken the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot in impressive fashion.

Joviality definitely didn’t look like herself here last time but dropped back to Group 2 company, she may well be worth another chance. I personally prefer the chances of the three year old 4/1 second favourite Most Improved. He put up a superb performance to land the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The horse has since disappointed in France but I’m happy to stick with the Brian Meehan trained runner back on home turf.

A Group 1 event, the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile is a race open to two year old fillies only, and is run over a trip of one mile. The seven runners are headed in the betting by the Godolphin runner Certify. This bay filly is unbeaten in three starts thus far, including two victories at this track and more recently, a win in the Group 2 Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes.

She definitely looks like the one they all have to beat. Certify’s biggest challenge looks likely to come from Mick Channon’s Ollie Olga. Also unbeaten in three starts, Ollie Olga landed a Group 3 event at Goodwood last time out and beat another of today’s rivals Amazonas in the process. She is obviously open to any amount of improvement, but her level of form looks slightly inferior to Certify and it is difficult to see the Godolphin runner being beaten this afternoon.
